James Turrell's Kielder Skyspace got a well-deserved facelift this year. As well as an internal refurbishment, this project provide the sculpture with LED lighting, a new digitally controlled lighting programme, and updated renewable energy equipment.
Lighting artist Eleanor Bell worked with James Turrell to design the new system and set up and the lighting programme, which was completed in early June.
Kielder Skyspace is an openly accessible structure located on the road up to the Observatory. The lighting, which is controlled by a seasonal timer, activates at sunset each day and runs for just over an hour throughout the year.
